How to choose a perfume online (without smelling it first)
You can’t smell a screen — but you can read one. Note families, the notes pyramid and the fragrances you already love tell you most of what a first spray would.

1. Start with a family
Every fragrance belongs to a family — its overall character. If you know the family you enjoy, you are most of the way there.
- FloralPetals, blossom and powder
- WoodyCedar, sandalwood and leather
- AmberResin, warmth and glow
- FreshCitrus, green and bright
- AquaticSea air and cool water
- FruityRipe, juicy and vivid
- MuskSkin, softness and depth
- ArabicOud, saffron and incense
2. Read the notes pyramid
- Top notes are what you smell first — usually bright citrus, fruit or spice that fades within the first stretch of wear.
- Heart notes appear as the top settles: florals, spices, green notes. This is the character of the fragrance.
- Base notes are what stays: woods, musk, amber, vanilla, oud. Judge a fragrance by its base if you care about how it feels later in the day.
3. Use what you already love
If there is a perfume you already enjoy, look for its direction: many of our fragrances name the scent that inspired them, so you can compare like with like.
4. Think about where you will wear it
- Hot days, offices and gyms: fresh, citrus and aquatic.
- Dates and evenings: woody, amber, musk and Arabic.
- Every day, everywhere: soft florals and clean musks.
5. Try several at once
A gift box lets you live with a few scents before choosing a full bottle, and bundle offers, when they’re on, bring the price per bottle down.
